Royal Welsh Show 2011 – a great pig show as usual, although numbers were down, which did give exhibitors and visitors more space, and the weather was kind overall. The Association was prominent – our stand, featuring the Trumper family’s young gilt with her first Saddleback litter of eight, attracted the crowds and the television cameras. She behaved impeccably and never complained when the TV presenters demanded the piglets be picked up. Thanks, Sally.
We had lots of TV coverage through the week, they were still filming Jonathan Davies trying to control a pig on Thursday morning.
Stand helpers dispensed teas, coffee, membership leaflets and lucky dips, and gave out information and advice. Many visitors were seeking advice on pigs in woodland, and experienced foresters Ray Harris and Graham Courtney were busy for hours. We gained eleven new members and got ten renewals in. Very many thanks to all who helped.
C & L Pugh-Morgan won the Association’s engraved tumbler for the best first time pig exhibitor at the Show. The best pen presentation award went to Barbara Warren – after eleven years of trying!
The junior pig handling exhibitors did an excellent job with Daniel and Joseph Impey winning their respected classes – again.
Those wanting to watch, can see all the breeds being shown on Friday, June the 17th. The BPA pig of the year, interbreed championships, pairs, young handlers and Kune Kune are shown on Saturday. Then its Rare Breeds day on Sunday under different judges.
Looking forward to meeting members old and new.
Results will be shown.
